Exercise 1: Match a half-sentence from box A with a suitable half-sentence from box B.

1. His visit to New York seemed to get shorter and shorter because he was very busy at work.

Hướng dẫn: Short là tính từ ngắn (short adjective) => adj-er and adj-er

Tạm dịch: Chuyến thăm New York của ông dường như ngày càng ngắn vì ông rất bận rộn trong công việc.

2. Eating and travelling in this city is getting more and more expensive.

Hướng dẫn: expensive là tính từ dài (long adjective) nên phỉa sử dụng cấu trúc more and more +adj

Tạm dịch: Ăn uống và đi lại trong thành phố này ngày càng đắt đỏ.

3. As the day went on, the weather got worse and worse.

Hướng dẫn: tính từ bad chuyển sang dạng so sánh hơn là worse.

Tạm dịch: Ngày qua ngày, thời tiết trở nên càng ngày càng xấu đi.

4. We had to stop the discussion because the question was becoming more and more complicated.

Hướng dẫn: tính từ complicated là tính từ dài => so sánh hơn là more complicated.

Tạm dịch: Chúng tôi đã phải dừng cuộc thảo luận vì câu hỏi đã trở nên càng lúc càng phức tạp. 

5. Your English is OK now. Your pronunciation has got better and better.

Hướng dẫn: tính từ good chuyển sang so sánh hơn là better.

Tạm dịch: Tiếng Anh của bạn bây giờ rất tốt. Phát âm của bạn càng ngày càng tốt.

6. Little John is becoming more and more active.

Hướng dẫn: tính từ active là tính từ dài => so sánh hơn là more active.

Tạm dịch: Little John trở nên ngày càng năng động.

7. As it was getting dark, it was becoming more and more difficult to see everything in the house without electricity. (difficult)

Hướng dẫn: tính từ difficult là tính từ dài => so sánh hơn là more difficult.

Tạm dịch: Khi trời đã tối, càng lúc càng khó để thấy mọi thứ trong nhà mà không có điện.

8. I feel happy as my birthday is coming closer and closer.

Hướng dẫn: close là tính từ ngắn => so sánh hơn là closer.

Tạm dịch: Tôi cảm thấy hạnh phúc khi sinh nhật của tôi đang đến ngày càng gần.
